Red Sangria / Spanish Cocktail

RED SANGRÍA
A recipe by Frank Camorra

Makes about 1 litre (35 fl oz/4 cups)

 

 

INGREDIENTS

  • 310 ml (10¾ fl oz/1¼ cups) red wine 
  • 125 ml (4 fl oz/½ cup) brandy
  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • 60 ml (2 fl oz/¼ cup) Licor 43, or other sweet liqueur

  • 1 banana, cut into 1 cm (1/2 inch) thick slices

  • 2 plums, stoned and chopped
  • 4 lemon wedges

  • 150 g (5½ oz) cherries, if in season

  • 500 ml (17 fl oz/2 cups) orange soda or lemonade, chilled

 

METHOD

Combine all the ingredients except the orange soda in a 2 litre (70 fl oz/8 cup) pitcher. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight. Fill four large tumblers with ice. Pour the orange soda into the pitcher and mix. Pour the sangría over the ice.
